The results showed clear behavioral differences: those receiving sycophantic responses became less willing to reconcile during arguments and felt more justified in behavior that violated social norms.
This isn’t just about hurt feelings—it’s about how these interactions might be reshaping social behavior at scale. When validation becomes the default response, the researchers suggest, we risk creating environments where self-reflection and personal growth get sidelined in favor of constant reassurance.
