Separate analysis from PYMNTS reportedly found that 70% of executives say AI has increased their exposure to digital risk, even as it improved productivity. More concerning, only 39% of firms surveyed indicated they have a formal framework for AI governance.

In response to these converging challenges, more than 70% of researchers now say AI safety research deserves greater priority—a sharp increase from 49% in 2016. The growing consensus around safety needs reflects both the accelerated timelines and the magnitude of potential risks.

As the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Artificial General Intelligence has emphasized, developing early frameworks to manage cross-border risks is becoming increasingly urgent.
